I know milk is not sexy but it's a staple in most houses, including mine. For years I struggled to get my family from whole milk to low fat and then, with swords drawn, to fat free. It was a battle. We do not need to add any fat to our diet when there is a good fat free alternative out there with the same (or better) health benefits. I had all but given up the fight on this one until I tried Smart Balance Heart Right Fat Free Milk. Where to start on my review... do I start with the great creamy taste of this milk and skip the fact that humans are the only species to drink another species milk? Or do I start with their pledge to use cows not treated
with the growth hormone rBST? I'll start with nutrition. One cup of this milk has 10g of protein, 360mg of calcium. That's good stuff. The added Omega-3's and Vitamin E are important to me as a mother. There is nothing special about the packaging and the only reference to social responsibility is the pledge to use cows not treated with rBST. I would be more committed to buying it if there was a pledge to support local farmers or use only cows treated humanely without the use of antibiotics and hormones. On the topic of humans drinking cow milk? I gave up on this one years ago. It's a fail safe way to get my kids to have a serving of protein, a dose of calcium and some vitamin E, that's what matters to me most.
My overall score was 27/40 - Good Stuff.
